National cargo process
1. Check Restrictions
Not all cargo is equal. Some restrictions may apply for safety and other reasons. It's best to check these before going any further.
2. Select Product and Service
Determine which product and service is best going to suit based on the features which are important to you. Our prices might assist your decision.
3. Make Booking
To ensure your cargo travels as planned, space must be booked in advance.

4. Prepare and Drop Off Cargo
You are responsible for preparing your cargo so it's suitable for air travel. Please refer to our shipping guidelines or packing requirements.

Before drop-off, ensure you have completed the necessary documentation:
- e-Connote – Required for all domestic shipments. If you have a customer account with access to our self-service portal, you can generate and print your e-connote in advance.
- Or this can be completed at the airport cargo terminal.
The purpose of the consignment note is:
- Proof of the contract of carriage
- Receipt of the goods for shipment
- Instructions for handling and delivery

Once your cargo and paperwork are ready, take your cargo to the nearest Air New Zealand cargo acceptance location.
5. Track Cargo
You can monitor your cargo's progress from the moment of drop-off to arrival at the destination via online tracking function.
6. Collect Cargo
The last part of the cargo journey is the collection at destination. How quickly you can retrieve it will be determined by the product and service it travelled under.
- Regional Ports: Cargo will be available for collection within 30-60 minutes after landing.
- Metro Airports: Cargo will be ready for collection 1 hour after the flight lands. (AKL/WLG/CHC/ZQN)
- The consignee must present a government-issued photo ID to collect the shipment.
- Collection of pets and animals: Only one consignee is permitted to collect. For example, if there are three puppies in a single cage, the cage must remain closed until it is outside the Cargo premises
